About
Our Motivation
The quantum computing ecosystem is rapidly growing, but many smaller companies and startups don't have the resources to send press releases to major news wires. This aggregator aims to:
- Give smaller companies visibility - Help emerging quantum companies get their news seen by the community
- Provide ecosystem insights - Give people in the quantum space a way to see what smaller players are doing
- Democratize quantum news - Ensure that innovation from companies of all sizes gets the attention it deserves
How Does the Aggregator Work?
Our Respectful Data Collection Process
We follow a careful, respectful approach when adding new companies to our aggregator:
Step 1: Check for RSS Feed
First, we look for an RSS feed on the company's news/blog page.
Step 2: Check robots.txt
If no RSS feed is available, we check the company's robots.txt file to see if they allow bots.
Step 3: Build Custom Scraper
If the site allows bots, we build a custom scraper specifically designed for their news page structure.
Step 4: Respect Restrictions
If a site has restrictive robots.txt or blocks automated access, we do not build a scraper for them.
Our Commitment to Respectful Data Collection
- Proper User-Agent: We identify ourselves as "QS-NewsBot/1.0" so sites know who we are
- Rate Limiting: We don't overwhelm servers with rapid requests
- Public Content Only: We only collect publicly available news and press releases
- Incremental Data Collection: We only fetch new content, not everything repeatedly
- Respect robots.txt: We follow all robots.txt directives
- No Private Data: We never attempt to access private or restricted areas
How Often Is Content Collected?
Our data collection schedule is designed to be respectful while keeping content fresh:
- Production Schedule: Once per day, typically in the early morning hours (ET)
- Development Phase: During the building phase, data collection may occur more or less frequently as we test and refine the system
- Incremental Updates: We only fetch new articles since the last scrape, not all content every time
